Safety Tips

Safety Tips. Being involved in and provided Security system business, have had an opportunity to discuss it with police on more than a few occasions. hence sharing some information here related to the personal safety and steps to take to make our surroundings safer (from Crime & Accidents).

these are some tips to make your society (CHS, colony, building or gated community) safer.
* Emergency nos. (police, ambulance, hospitals, snake catchers, helpline for women & children etc.) should be displayed in bold and at the visible areas including elevators.
* Elevators should display clear information of what to do in case it stops working.
* Enter the basic information of visitors, if possible use contemporary technology.
* Consider the security personal as your spending towards the safety. cheapest cannot be the criteria to select the security personal or agency.
* Consider security personal, a part of the society. remember, they are going to be the first layer of your safety. interact with them, address them by their name, involve them in the activities, least is.... be human to them.
* Proper lighting can reduce the chances of crime. make sure the open areas, lobby, staircases are adequately illuminated.
* Emergency exit, staircases should be bolted from inside.
* According to statistics, more than 50% of crimes are committed by the known people with incomplete information. but instead of being suspicious, collect the necessary information of the regular visitors in the digital format.
* Make sure that the vehicles are following the speed and other regulations within the society premises to ensure safety of the Kids, Elderly and other members.
* Regularly trim the branches following the rules and regulations. make sure trees are not the entryways to the houses.
* There have been multiple occasions when, Emergency vehicles like Fire brigade or Ambulance couldn’t reach the designated place due to improper parking or wrong placement of plants, trash or scrap. make sure that doesn’t happen.
* Keep the surrounding clean. unclean places may attract rodents foll0wed by snakes and other reptiles. ensure there are no mosquito breeding places around.

Few tips for home safety.

* If looking for to move to new home, involve the family members in decision making. let them be aware of the surroundings. take their opinion.
* Most important part of the home safety is the Front Door. make sure it is strong enough. if required, install a safety door. there has to be a provision to see the visitor and if possible to take the small deliveries without opening the door. train the kids to not rush to open the door without confirming the visitor. Instruct them and also senior citizen to not let unknown person in without confirmation.
* While moving to new home, either change the old locks or put an additional one. you wouldn’t know who all could be carrying the keys of the old locks.
* Make sure the windows are safe from intrusion and also from the accidents.
* We can choose the home not the neighbours. they are the first one who can help. maintain cordial relation with them and also be their support system when they need it.
* Check the identity of the visitor before letting them in, when in doubt cross check on the number on the website, not on the no’s given by them.
* Ensure You lock the door after letting someone in, open door can be easy entry to the person who is not visible at that time. don’t let more than required no of people in for any work.
* Before scheduled visits, make sure the valuables are not scattered around. we can’t be suspicious but can be careful. there are recorded instances when, wrong allegations were made on the visitors and were found later.
* Avoid exhibition of the wealth in person or on social media.
* Do not announce travel plan details on social media. photos, experience can be shared after coming back.
* Sometimes it’s better to not halt the Milk or newspaper delivery service. ask your neighbour to collect it instead. let the others keep guessing.
* Use bank lockers to keep Jewellery. make the digital copies of purchase bills etc.
* Shred the documents, statements etc. before discarding.
*Don’t write address on the keychain. do not keep vehicle and house keys together. or make sure to remove while sending the vehicle for repair, service or before giving it to someone else.
* Statistically, average time to break in is 90 seconds to 12 minutes. make sure you don’t make their job easier.
* Like you invest in the beautification, invest in good quality locks, Storage, Safes, doors and if possible security systems.
* A simple but most important tip, make sure the doors are closed.
* In case of Intrusion, expert advice to remember that there is nothing more important than your wellbeing. unnecessary bravery should be avoided. take refuge in the safe place. in case of threat, go to kitchen area which would be more familiar to you than any intruder. .....
* Insurance can be useful.
